Editing process

 After deciding on the name, I started the design of my cover page. Using my previous photoshop knowledge I placed the masthead in the middle of the photo used and created a gradient effect to match the white from the bass guitar. I made it silver to highlight the text and draw attention to it.

I then went on to add the rest of the codes and conventions such as the cover lines, issue, barcode, price, etc. I matched the yellow on the cover lines with the guitar strap just to make it more aesthetically pleasing

Color scheme

 Based off the colors in the cover photo, I decided to stick to a black, yellow and white color scheme to keep the whole minimalistic idea going on. 

Name ideas

Deciding on a name for my magazine was quite difficult. However after some reflection, I decided on the name Aspire. This best reflects the topic of my magazine which is the creation of awareness to young talent with specific focus on the Kenyan music industry. Aspire, in this context, means to rise high and reach for greater heights, therefore, I finalized this name

Flat plan

After getting the technicalities out of the way, I started planning out my layout. With the picture I chose to use, I felt that a more minimalistic approach would work best since there is quite a lot going on the picture so a contrast was needed. I drew out a flat plan so I could have a visual image of how I wanted the magazine to look.

Font choice

 I did some research on what types of fonts are common in music magazines and made my choice accordingly. I narrowed it down to four different fonts and chose the one I thought would best work for the masthead. The other three I used for other parts of the cover page such as the tagline and the cover lines. 

Cover page design(draft)

 After much thought, I finally decided what picture to include on my draft. I chose this one specifically because it highlights the main focus of the magazine, which is music. I also like the colors and would like to incorporate them in the text, as seen in the inspiration pictures in my earlier post.
